Constable, Delacroix, Caspar David Friedrich and Goya were vital in shaping modern art at the threshold of the 18th to the 19th century in Europe. This special exhibition at Albertinum traces the influence of these exceptional artists by presenting paintings by Paul Cézanne, Adolph Menzel, Édouard Manet, Mark Rothko and Gerhard Richter alongside masterpieces of the Romantic period. Works by 16 artists will be presented, enabling historical references and contexts spanning some 200 years of art history to be explored from new perspectives (16 March - 14 July 2013). > more
On the occasion of the 350th birthday of the Lutheran pastor and professor August Hermann Francke the Francke Foundations commemorates their founder with an extensive jubilee programme and exhibition. Through outstanding exhibits, the exhibition will recreate life in the period around 1700 and address – for the very first time – the central question of where Francke drew the power for his inspiring life’s work. A visible witness of his effort was the construction of a unique school town, which drew worldwide attention as early as 300 years ago (24 March – 21 July 2013 ). > more
In 1922, works by Bauhaus artists like Paul Klee or Wassily Kandinsky were exhibited together with works of indian avant-garde artists in an extraordinary show in Calcutta. Both avant-gardes were united by the mutual search for intellectual reform and cultural emancipation. Ninety years later, Bauhaus Dessau Foundation shows a selection of works, which were part of the exhibition in Calcutta in 1922. At the same time, photographies, films and publications bring an early example for a global art scene to life again. (27 March – 30 June 2013). > more

Wealth has always been unevenly distributed in the world. In the “global village”, however, the gap between rich and poor seems larger than ever before. The exhibition in the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden explores humanity’s efforts to attain prosperity and security. A cruise ship provides the central motif of the exhibition design. As a symbol of our dreams of luxury, it becomes a platform for the analysis of the social structures and forces which have led, in today’s world, to success in life being measured primarily in terms of money and property (6 July – 10 November 2013). > more
