Bach-Archiv Leipzig

A vibrant centre of Bach research

The Bach-Archiv Leipzig collects, preserves, registers and catalogues musical, documentary and literary materials related to Johann Sebastian Bach, his large family of musicians and their circles. As a research institution, museum and library, the archive serves both to advance scholarship and to increase awareness among the general public. Every year in June, it organises the renowned Bachfest Leipzig. The biennial Bach Competition is among the most important international competitions for young performers. In terms of its functional diversity, the Bach Archive is without parallel anywhere in the world. The Bach-Museum was reopened in 2010, in celebration of the 325th anniversary of J. S. Bach's birth: it presents the biography and influence of the composer and his family in a multimedia, interactive permanent exhibition.
