Klassik Stiftung Weimar

A centre of European culture

With more than 20 museums, palaces and historical buildings; with the Duchess Anna Amalia Library, a research library containing over 1 million volumes; with the Goethe and Schiller Archive and with the landscape parks in Weimar and the surrounding area, the Klassik Stiftung Weimar is an important centre of European history, culture and study. The collections' holdings reach from the Middle Ages to modernism and are particularly strong in the areas of 'Classical Weimar' and 'Weimar Modernism'. The estates of more than 100 poets and artists are maintained by the Goethe and Schiller Archive, which is Germany's oldest literary archive. These include the estate of Goethe's manuscripts, which has been honoured with inclusion in the Memory of the World Register. The foundation's significance has been further confirmed through the inscription of 11 of the 'Classical Weimar' ensemble's properties in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
