DBahn – Muskauer Park
'Painting with nature' was Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau's (1785-1871) description of the artistically designed nature of the landscape park that he realised between 1815 and 1845. With its magnificent buildings and its park of over 830 hectares, this 'English garden' is an internationally significant work of landscape architecture and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Pückler sold the Muskau princely manor in 1845. The palace was later refurbished in neo-Renaissance style. Visitors can learn about the life and works of this epochal landscape gardener, writer and master of the art of living in the permanent exhibition of the New Castle.
Because of the shifting of the border after the end of the Second World War, the park now stretches across the territory of two countries; their preservationists maintain close contact. Since 1993, the Stiftung Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau ('Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau' Foundation) has dedicated itself to the maintenance and historical reconstruction of the park and to the restoration of its buildings in keeping with principles of historic preservation. Important areas in the Polish section of the park have also been restored.
