Stiftung Schloss Friedenstein Gotha

The Baroque Universe

In addition to the historical state rooms and the Ekhof-Theatre at Schloss Friedenstein, the foundation is also responsible for the extraordinarily rich and diverse natural history and cultural history collections as well as art collections, which are presented in three museums (Castle Museum, Historical Museum, Nature Museum). The extensively renovated Ducal Museum, which contains the art collections, has been reopened in the southern part of the palace grounds. Its holdings reflect a ducal culture of collecting that maintained an elite level for centuries and encompassed everything from the cabinet of art to the cabinet of natural curiosities. The foundation enriches cultural life through a large number of high-quality events, which include the Ekhof festival, the Baroque festival and numerous programmes for children and adolescents. The palace’s extensive park, the large research library and also the Thuringian State Archive are all separately managed, but also belong to the ‘Baroque Universe of Gotha’.
